A difficulty some students have in developing their writing is in seeing how some of its ‘smaller’ features (choice of words, links between sentences) can have a strong effect on how successfully the writing ‘carries’ their thinking and communicates with a reader. Correspondingly, small changes to one’s writing can have a big effect on its impact.
Our work in this area aims to help students develop a critical awareness of the language they use when they write.
The activities in this section are not so much about generating writing as reflecting and refining what you have already written.
